| Under direction, coordinates
the recycling program for MCPS. Work of the class involves
implementing procedures to facilitate recycling of waste
in all MCPS facilities; serving as liaison with the County's
Division of Solid Waste, which has County-wide responsibility
for recycling; and coordinating the services of contract
waste haulers that pick up recycled waste. The employee
develops and implements procedures to encourage and assist
MCPS facility staffs to form recycling teams to sort recyclables
from waste, visits facilities to instruct staffs in procedures
and to promote recycling efforts, and coordinates with
the contract waste hauler pickups, schedules and other
matters. The work requires periodic reports on recycling
performance and maintenance of related records and files.
The work may also include collateral assignments involving
contract monitoring such as uniform purchases. |
| Considerable knowledge of the methods
and practices of recycling waste industry procedures
and
processes. Ability to develop and implement procedures
for recycling waste in school sites and other MCPS
facilities.
Ability to communicate effectively with facility staffs
and others regarding recycling efforts and to encourage
and assist facility staffs in creating recycling efforts
within their facilities. Ability to maintain operating
records and to prepare reports thereon. Skill in the
use of standard office automation equipment including
PCs
and word processing, spreadsheet and database software.

| Graduation from high school and
considerable experience performing maintenance or trade
related administrative work that involved preparing reports,
manuals and other written materials and maintaining files
and records. Other combination of applicable education,
training, and experience that provide the knowledge, abilities,
and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position
may be considered. |
| Possession of valid Driver's License. |

Coordinates the MCPS recycling program. Assists facilities
staffs in forming recycling teams to sort recyclable
waste, provides informational materials and visits facilities
to encourage/assist staff to form and/or improve recycling
efforts. Monitors services of contract waste hauler
regarding problems and arranges for special pickups,
schedule changes and other services. Supplies MCPS facilities
with recycling containers, locks, dumpsters and other
equipment needed. Maintains liaison with Montgomery
County Division of Solid Waste, which has county-wide
responsibility for recycling, to assess effectiveness
of and determine actions needed to improve the recycling
program. Maintains related files and records and prepares
periodic and special reports. Performs related work
as required.
