Under direction, prepares surfaces
for painting and mixes and applies paint to equipment,
furniture, pavements, and the interior and exterior of
buildings.
Employees of this class perform a variety of painting
assignments involving the preparation of surfaces and
the mixing, matching, and application of paints and other
finishes to a wide range of equipment, buildings, and
structures and brush or spray gun. Most of the positions
in this class are assigned to paint crews and general
instructions and supervision are received from the crew
leader. Some assignments include working from scaffolds,
flag poles or other high places, and involve exposure
to accident and injury hazards and, to disagreeable elements. |
| Considerable knowledge of the methods,
materials, tools, and practices of the painting trade;
working knowledge of occupational hazards of the trade,
and precautionary measures to be observed. Skill in the
application of paints and other finishes with brush, roller
or spray gun. |
| Completion of ninth school grade
and experience in preparing and painting a wide variety
of building surfaces, furniture, and equipment, or completion
of a recognized apprenticeship in the trade. Other combinations
of applicable education, training, and experience which
provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary
to perform effectively in the position may be required. |
| Possession of a valid Maryland driver's
license. |

frequent climbing.) Sufficient physical strength and stamina
to stand for long periods of time. Ability to climb and
work from scaffolds, flag poles or other high places.

Prepares surfaces to be painted, including scraping,
sanding, puttying, and caulking; mixes and matches paints,
varnishes, lacquers, and enamels; applies paints and
other materials to furniture and metal equipment and
to interior and exterior of buildings; uses brushes,
rollers, and spray guns in the application of paints,
varnishes, and shellac. Marks off and paints lines on
basketball courts, tennis courts, and other game areas;
uses line gun in painting curbing, crosswalks, and parking
lot areas; paints traffic directional signs. Mixes,
matches, and applies paint to refinished cabinets and
other furniture. Performs related work as required. |
