Industrial Equipment Supervisor |

| Under direction, performs skilled and technical supervisory
work in the inspection, maintenance and repair of varied
types of industrial equipment. An employee in this class
is responsible for planning and laying out work details,
assigning duties, and directing the work of shop repair
mechanics. Nature of the work requires frequent visits
to school and office facilities to inspect subordinates'
work, to advise on complex jobs or to perform the more
difficult adjustments and repairs to equipment. An employee
in this class further surveys and evaluates the condition
of a large assortment of industrial tools, equipment,
and machinery to make recommendation as to repair or
replacement.

Thorough knowledge of the tools, equipment,
and materials necessary to effect repair work; thorough
knowledge of the characteristics of a wide variety of
machine units and specialized equipment. Ability to plan,
assign, and supervise the work of others; ability to maintain
operating records and prepare reports and the ability
to analyze equipment malfunctions and to make effective
alterations and adjustments. Good human relations and
communications skills.

| Graduation from high school and considerable experience
in the inspection, repair, overhaul, and maintenance
of a wide range of industrial education equipment to
include specifically printing, sewing and blue collar
instruments and some experience in a supervisory capacity.
Other combinations of applicable education, training,
and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities,
and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position
may be considered. |
| Possession of a valid Maryland class D. driver's license
or equivalent. |
| (Special requirements such as lifting heavy objects and frequent climbing.) Ability to perform work requiring considerable standing
and bending and occasional lifting of moderately heavy
objects. |

Plans, assigns, and supervises the work of technicians
in the repair and maintenance of equipment in the MCPS
printing, carpentry, metal, auto, and industrial arts
shops; makes estimates of time, materials, and labor
charges; inspects quality of work in progress and upon
completion to ensure conformance with prescribed standards.
Performs highly skilled and complex maintenance work
in adjusting, dismantling, and repairing of pilot and
proof presses, stitchers, sewing machines, multiliths,
drills, cutters, lathes, saws, buffers, sanders, etc.;
replaced defective equipment parts and tests for operational
effectiveness; requisitions repair parts and supplies
as needed.
Evaluates the condition of various industrial equipment
and advises as to safety, operating life, and repair/replacement
needs; surveys and investigates new types of equipment
on the market and may prepare specifications or make
recommendations to departmental staff prior to procurement.
Oversees a continuing preventive maintenance program;
provides data on diverse makes/models of equipment from
work manuals and catalogues; maintains job records and
prepares reports on repair operations.
Performs related work as required. |
