| Under general supervision,
communicates with vehicle operators for repair information,
prepares and generates vehicle work orders, assist
in dispatching service and tow vehicles, general clerical
work requiring skilled use of office equipment or
experienced application of unit procedures. Work consists
of well defined tasks performed in accordance with
clearly established work guides and procedures. Workers
complete recurring assignments on their own after
becoming familiar with the work. Assignments typically
involve operation of desktop computers, two-way radio,
telephone, scanners and similar office equipment. |
| Knowledge of the operation of school
buses and other vehicles. English, spelling, and arithmetic;
knowledge of modern office practices and procedures.
Ability to maintain clerical records; ability to check,
verify and compile data. Ability to operate, or to
learn to operate, fleet maintenance computerized maintenance
and inventory system. Ability to operate high speed
photocopy equipment. Ability to communicate effectively
with others. Skill in the operation of a desk top
computer and two-way radio. |
Graduation from high school
and experience in performing general clerical work.
Other combinations of applicable education, training,
and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities,
and skills necessary to perform effectively in the
position may be considered.

| Possession
of a valid Maryland state noncommercial Class C driver's
license, or equivalent. Ability to secure a Maryland state
commercial Class B driver's license, or equivalent, with
air brake, passenger/cargo, and school bus endorsements
within six (6) months of employment. |

Operates computer to enter data and
maintain computerized office or unit records, for example:
enters vehicle repair information and generates work
orders, issues order numbers and customer copies of work
orders, creates schedules, and retrieves bus history
data. Creates reports in excel, word, access, and the
fleet maintenance management system (FASTER ).
Checks and verifies data, for example: part numbers
and hours worked on repair orders and calculates labor
time; checks vehicle component replacement records; checks
vendor invoices for accuracy.
Operates photocopy machine, paper cutter, and other
office devices. Receives work and sets controls to produce
desired output.
Answers telephones, two-way radios, and takes messages;
responds to inquiries regarding unit services; greets
and directs visitors.
Telephones and arranges pick up and delivery of vehicles ‘from
outside vendors. Contacts and advises vehicle operators
on two-way radios.
Maintains computerized data by accessing database system;
entering, verifying, updating and retrieving data.
Performs related work as required.
