Satellite Parts Assistant |

| Under general supervision of automotive repair supervisor,
performs responsible store keeping work in the operation
of a parts room at a satellite automotive repair facility.
Submits orders to parts clerks at Shady Grove automotive
repair facility, receives, stores, issues and maintains
records on automotive equipment and replacement parts.
Receives technical guidance and support from Automotive
Parts Supervisor, and refers problems relating to wrong
parts, rush orders, etc., to the central parts clerks.
An employee in this class is accountable for all commodities
received and issued.

| This position requires knowledge of all of the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS) to include commitment to students, knowledge of job, professionalism, interpersonal, communication, organization, and problem solving. Working knowledge of stock room methods, inventory
procedures, and record keeping. Working knowledge of
a variety of parts, equipment, tools, supplies, methods,
and practices used in the repair and maintenance of
automotive equipment. Ability to keep inventory and
stock control records, prepare reports, and properly
identify and order automotive parts and supplies. Ability
to understand and carry out written and oral instruction.
Good interpersonal skills.

| Graduation from high school and experience in the ordering,
receipt, storage and issuance of parts, equipment and
supplies, including some experience in an automotive
repair shop. Other combinations of applicable education,
training, and experience which provide the knowledge,
abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively
in the position may be considered. |
| Possession of a valid CDL driver’s license or
ability to acquire one. |
| (Special requirements such as lifting heavy objects and frequent climbing.) Ability to lift and move heavy parts and other items. |
| (Frequent overtime
or night work required, etc.) Night work, overtime, and weekend work required. May
be required to attend training courses/programs in order
to learn new automotive equipment and repair procedures,
update skills, etc. |

Orders and reorders automotive replacement parts, and
other items such as chassis, engines, brakes, electrical
and ignition units, tires, tubes, safety equipment,
gasoline, oil, and shop supplies through the central
facility parts clerks.
Consults with shop supervisor to determine the correct
spare parts needed, and, then, obtains these items for
stock.
Checks items received against order placed, and reports
discrepancies to central facility parts clerks;
Issues parts and equipment to mechanics and other MCPS
personnel.
Maintains inventory control system recording parts
and equipment received, use rate, quantity in stock,
and charges off of inventory
Maintains a monthly and annual file of parts and equipment
obtained by the shop.
Provides status report on vehicles that are inoperable
due to unavailability of parts.
Performs related work as required. |
