Teacher
Evaluation Handbook (363K PDF)
The Teacher Evaluation System sets high standards
for the quality of teaching and then places the emphasis
of resources on professional growth for each and every
educator working with students. The system treats teachers
who meet or exceed the high standard differerently
from those
who do not meet the standard or those who are brand
new to
the profession.
Experienced teachers who are performing
well are in a five-year Professional Growth Cycle in
which they utilize a variety of strategies such as
peer observation
and collaboration to enhance their expertise and learn
from their colleagues.
Teachers new to teaching and
those
veteran teachers who are deemed to be performing below
the high MCPS standards receive the support of the
Peer
Assistance and Review (PAR) program. They are assigned
a "consulting teacher." who works intensively with
them in order to help them re-enter the Professional
Growth
Cycle.
