The Superintendent's Annual Mark Mann Excellence and Harmony Award is presented to a Montgomery County Public Schools principal who has shown exceptional performance in promoting the following categories: academic excellence, human relations, and community outreach. More about the award.
The nomination deadline for the 2008 Mark Mann Award was February 1, 2008.
The superintendent will announce the recipient and present the award in fall 2008.

Two outstanding principals have won the 2007 Mark Mann Excellence and Harmony Award — Lance Dempsey, principal of Shady Grove Middle School, and Lee Derby, current principal of Cedar Grove
Elementary School. Derby won for his work at Garrett Park Elementary School, where he was principal for five years.

The award is designed to honor the highest qualities and most significant accomplishments of Dr. Mark Mann, former principal of Parkland Middle School, Montgomery County Public Schools. Dr. Mann was recognized throughout the system as an excellent school-based educator who dedicated himself to understanding and embracing the rich diversity of his school and community. He worked tirelessly to make everyone a vital part of school programs, activities and services.
