Primetime Appropriate Use
Welcome to Primetime! Your principal or administrator has requested an account that enables you to create web applications to be accessed by the public or a broad MCPS audience for one year. Responsibility for maintenance of the application and database rests with your school or office. This document defines appropriate use of the Primetime server.
- Security: Keep your account information confidential and do not share it with others. A security breach can compromise the entire server.
- Project Appropriateness: Do not use this web application development and production environment as a replacement venue for an entire web site. It allows you to extend the functionality of your site with a dynamic application and is not intended to scale to support entire web sites. See the Primetime FAQ.
- Content Integrity: Publish only information or data which you have permission to publish. Primetime should not be used to host sensitive or confidential data.
- Appropriate Use: The Primetime service is for educational purposes only and cannot be used for file storage.
- Code Expectations: Write applications in PHP only and troubleshoot your own code. Do not use ASP, JSP, Coldfusion, etc.
- Behavior: Recognize that this is a shared server and respect other users of the environment. (See next item, Technology Use)
- Technology Use: Follow guidelines established in Regulation IGT-RA: User Responsibilities for Computer Networks and Network Security (28K PDF)
- Account Duration: All accounts are disabled at the end of each school year and must be renewed if continued access is necessary.
The Web Services Team manages the development environment. We also set up customer accounts and secure areas for each customer group, configure data sources, and monitor resource use for potential problems. Developers who do not follow these appropriate use guidelines may lose their access privileges.
Please contact Web Services via e-mail at webmaster@mcpsmd.org if you have problems or questions.
