A Montgomery County Public Schools Alumni Campaign is under way,
with the goal of helping make a difference in the lives of students.
This may be the first time a systemwide fund raising campaign has been
undertaken in a large school system. The new campaign was encouraged by Patricia
B. O'Neill, past president of the Montgomery County Board of Education
and a 1968 graduate of Walter Johnson HS.
Funds raised through the campaign will supplement tax-supported resources
to enhance programs that stimulate high levels of student performance
and achievement.
MCPS alumni who developed the campaign hope that by supporting the
key ingredients of successful education, they can help make a difference
in the lives of children. Funds will be used to implement programs that
achieve the following goals:
- Enhance and augment high quality programs.
- Promote and support competent and committed staff.
- Strengthen and expand parent involvement.
To meet these three goals, teachers, principals and community members
will be asked to design and implement innovative programs and projects.
Creative ideas will be solicited through a proposal and review process.
Alumni will fund those projects that are most innovative and can demonstrate
the likelihood of success.
Contributions will be received by the MCPS
Educational Foundation, Inc., a nonprofit 501(c)(3) tax-exempt
organization. Alumni will make decisions regarding distribution
of Alumni Campaign funds. Individuals are encouraged to serve
on a committee to support the Alumni Campaign.
The Alumni Campaign brochure, which includes a form to accompany donations,
is available to staff, parents and community members:
