MEDIA ADVISORY: Superintendent to Release School Construction Recommendations

October 27, 2014
Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) Superintendent Joshua Starr will release his recommended amendments to the district’s six-year Capital Improvements Program (CIP) TOMORROW, Tuesday, October 28, 2014. He will hold a media availability at 11:15 a.m. to answer questions from the media about the proposal.

Enrollment in MCPS has increased by 16,485 students since 2007 and is expected to grow by another 11,000 students over the next six years. Much of the growth in recent years has been in elementary schools, but as those students get older, there will be an increased need for additional space in secondary schools.

Dr. Starr, the Montgomery County Board of Education and other Montgomery County leaders are seeking additional revenue from the state to help MCPS deal with its rapidly growing enrollment. MCPS is the largest and fastest-growing district in the state.
