The Outdoor Education Program provides opportunties for every MCPS student to be involved with authentic, interdisplinary learning opportunities in the out-of-doors. In addition to residential outdoor education program, the unit also operates two day programs that are open to MCPS students and Staff. The programs support the county schools and the new curriculum framework by providing direct student instruction, hands-on curricular connections for staff and students, workshops and in-service courses for school personnel. Compliance with the Environmental Education By-Law(COMAR 13A.04.17) at the middle school level is achieved with the residential outdoor education program. The program also acts as a statewide resource for environmental and outdoor education information and materials as well as maintains professional liasons with similar programs and agencies at the local and state level.

About the Independent Activity Fund

Independent Activity Funds (IAF) are established to promote the general welfare, education, and morale of students, as well as to finance the recognized extracurricular activities of the student body. Audits are conducted to make sure the funds are being spent in compliance with MCPS policy and to offer suggestions for continuous improvement. IAF reports completed after January 1, 2012 are posted to this site.
