Community Service
Every year Bannockburn students have the opportunity to participate in Community Service projects. Working with teachers, parents and volunteers, students gain a greater awareness of the community they live in. In return, their activities make a meaningful contribution to the surrounding community.
2003-2004 | Walk for the Homeless
Bannockburn students participated in a Walk for the Homeless on October 24. All students walked on the playground and field during their recess period to show caring for Montgomery County's homeless families.
Over 110 students contributed to the cause by donating money, but all students in grades 2-5 walked. The Director and the Community Outreach Coordinator of the Montgomery County Coalition for the Homeless spoke to the children during their lunch period just before each group began their walk. Our students learned that every day in Montgomery there are many homeless children in addition to adults.
All 3rd grade classes had a more in depth look at homelessness that afternoon. A Montgomery County Coalition for the Homeless representative spoke to each 3rd grade home room.
Bannockburn raised over $1800 for assistance programs to benefit the homeless of Montgomery County.
