Community Service
Every year Bannockburn students have the opportunity to participate in Community Service projects. Working with teachers, parents and volunteers, students gain a greater awareness of the community they live in. In return, their activities make a meaningful contribution to the surrounding community.
2004-2005 | Walk for the Homeless
Bannockburn students participated in a Walk for the Homeless on October 20, 2004. All students walked around a designated path on the playground during their recess period to show caring and support for Montgomery County's homeless families.
Over 140 students were registered walkers, contributing over $2,500 to the Montgomery County Coalition for the Homeless. These funds were matched by other sponsors for a grand total of over $5000. Representatives from the Coalition spoke to the children during their lunch period before each group began their walk. Our students were reminded that every day in Montgomery County there are over 500 homeless children.
Third grade classes had a more in depth look at homelessness the afternoon of October 8. A Montgomery County Coalition for the Homeless representative spoke to each 3rd grade home room.
