Dear Parents,
Welcome to School Year 2007-2008! Our staff has been working through the summer to plan instruction and to create positive learning communities in each classroom. We welcome new staff members to Bannockburn this year. Our new staff members are Mrs. West, Principal Intern, Ms. Gillespie, Staff Development Teacher, Mrs. O’Donnell, School Psychologist, and Mr. Bower, Lunch/Recess Aide. We are excited to have them on our school team!
We look forward to seeing all of our Bannockburn families on the playground for the Welcome Back Picnic on Friday, Sept. 7th. This is traditionally a great time for the kids, as they get to run around with all of their friends, and there is plenty of good food! Our Back To School Night will be done similar to last year’s event. We will begin with a PTA club sign-up in the gym from 6:00-6:30 p.m. Following the club sign up will be a general meeting for all in the Gym from 6:30-7:00pm, when I will introduce the entire staff and the PTA presidents will share some PTA News. We will then move into two consecutive 30-minute sessions, when parents can go to their children’s classrooms to visit with the teachers and receive information on the instructional programs. We do the two identical sessions to give parents that have more than one child at Bannockburn ES an opportunity to visit at least two of their children’s teachers. The first session will be 7:00-7:30 p.m., and the second session will be 7:40-8:10 p.m. We also have a Principal’s Tea on October 3rd, and this is open to all parents. The tea is an informal forum where we set our own agenda and talk about concerns or questions you may have regarding the school program and community. I look forward to seeing you at these events!
For all of our dog lovers: Montgomery County ordinance forbids unleashed dogs or dogs not in their owner’s immediate control to be on school grounds. This ordinance is in effect at Bannockburn Elementary. The Montgomery County Department of Animal Control will be called to remove any animals roaming unleashed. Parents who bring leashed dogs on or near school property should consider that some children are fearful of dogs, leashed or not. For your convenience and that of the students, we have a designated “doggy parking” to the side of our main entrance, close to the staff parking lot. When you drop off or pick up students with your dog present, please remain in this area. Thank you for your consideration.
Should you at any time like to request a copy of your child’s records, please submit a request to Mrs. Holcomb, our attendance secretary. Copies of records will be made available to you seven to ten school days from the date of request.
Should you have any questions regarding your child’s lunch account, please feel free to contact the school. You will receive a letter from our cafeteria manager, Mrs. Yading, if your child’s account is low on funds. If your child does not have money in his or her account, he or she will be served milk and cereal, and you will receive a call from the school leaving you a courtesy message that there is a zero balance in the account. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
We have a very busy month, so please take a moment to review the important dates listed below. “Safety First” for our students is a priority, so thank you for signing in at the main office when you visit the school, and for waiting outside at dismissal time for your children.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
