Chess Club

Chess Club is a Bannockburn tradition that goes back nearly ten years. Students in grades 1-5 learn the basic moves, strategy, and chess etiquette, twice per week. The Thursday section features instruction from Larry Kaufman, four-time Maryland Chess Champion.

About | Chess Club

Research has found that chess improves a child's visual memory, attention span, and spatial-reasoning ability. And because it requires players to make a series of decisions, each move helps kids learn to plan ahead, evaluate alternatives, and use logic to make sound choices. Most of all, it's fun!

For those of you who are interested in the Bannockburn Chess Club, the Fall session begins in October. As in previous years, there are two sections:

Tuesdays (for new beginners)
4:00 - 5:00 in the Bannockburn AP room
Begins October 26
Thursdays (for more experienced players, featuring chessmaster Larry Kaufman)
4:00 - 5:00 in the Bannockburn AP room
Begins October 28

Students report to the AP room directly after school. A registration form with more information will come home in the Wednesday Envelope.
