MCPS Policy on High School
Courses Taken in Middle School
Information on high school credit for high school courses
taken in middle school can be found on the MCPS Grading
and Reporting website
http://www.mcps.k12.md.us/info/grading/qa/qa5.shtm#hscourses
Please note: The procedures
for awarding credit for high school courses taken in middle
school have been changed. Students who took high school
courses in middle school before school year 2004-05 and
who do not want a grade to appear on their transcripts will
have until June 30, 2005 to request that
grades and credits for these courses be removed. These students
should use MCPS form 560-53, "Removal of Credit
for High School Courses Taken in Middle School",
available at the Counseling
Office and on the MCPS website, www.mcps.k12.md.us/departments/forms/pdf/560-53.pdf
For more information on these changes, and on whether to
remove these courses from the transcripts, please contact
the Counseling Office.
It is also important to check your student's transcript
to make sure that geometry and foreign language level 3
courses taken at Westland have the correct honors designation.
Please contact the Registrar's
Office if there is an error.
Revised MCPS Attendance Definitions
As of November 7, 2005, schools will use the below definitions
of "days present" (which reverts to language in
place prior to the beginning of this school year) to record
absences.
"A student should be counted present for 1/2 day
if in attendnace any part of the school day. A student in
attendance for more than 1/2 day is counted present for
a full day. A Grade 12 student enrolled for less than a
full day is to be counted present based on the amount of
time he/she is enrolled. For example, if a Grade 12 student
is enrolled for period one only, that student will be counted
present for a full day if the student is in attendance for
period one, regarless of any variations in scheduling."
