in Creative Writing – for students entering
10, 11 and 12th grades next school year. Deadline: May

These programs are for students interested
in learning new ways to improve their writing skills. They
also provide the student with an opportunity to sample life
on a college campus, and to meet other students with similar
interests and academic ability. Please see the brochure

Fir Acres Workshop in Writing and Thinking
– Lewis & Clark College, July 1-13, for students
completing grades 8-12.
Fir Acres collaboratively explores the relationship between
writing, thinking, and learning, and come to understand
writing as a liberal art. Participants leave with a deeper
understanding of themselves and their world, and a better
preparation for the rigors of a college education. Refer

Shakespeare's Sisters
Five Centuries of Poetry by Women at the Folger Shakespeare
Library
Wednesdays, 3:30-5:30pm, January 19-March 30, 2005
In this 10-week seminar, students in grades 10-12 read
and discuss the works of British and American women poets
from the mid-sixteenth century to the present. Participants
also write some poetry of their own; the course culminates
with a poetry slam.

Fall Semester
Opportunities at the Writer's Center
The Writer’s Center has received funding to offer
three free creative writing master classes for high
school students in the fall of 2007. These
four-session classes in poetry, fiction, and personal essay,
will meet at The Writer’s Center, 4508 Walsh Street,
Bethesda, MD 20815. There is no tuition charge for students
who are accepted into these master class workshops, but
they must apply by submitting writing samples. Download
