Grading Policy
The following B-CC Italian 1 policies are
consistent with the new MCPS Grading and Reporting policy as
outlined in Learning, Grading and Reporting Guidelines
(MCPS, 2005). Quarter grades will reflect individual
achievement on course objectives and will be determined in the
following manner:
Grades will be based on a total points
system. 90% of the grade will be made up of assessments (tests,
quizzes, projects, speaking assessments, etc…) that will be
graded for mastery of course objectives.
10% of the grade will consist of practice activities
(homework, classwork and warm-ups) that will be graded for completion.
Grades will be assigned according to the following
scale, based on the total points earned:
A 90-100%
B 80-89%
C 70-79%
D 60-69%
E 50-59%
Reassessment
Each student has at least two (2) opportunities
for reassessment each quarter. Reassessment opportunities are
identified by the teacher before the original task/assessment
and will occur within an instructional unit. All students may
be reassessed, regardless of grade on original task/assessment,
if they meet the following requirements:
1.
Complete the original task or assessment.
2. Complete required assignments (i.e. homework/classwork/activities/etc.)
leading up to or in preparation for the assessment task.
3.
Complete reteaching/relearning activities as determined by the
teacher.
Should any of the above requirements not be
met, the student forfeits his/her opportunity to reassess. Please
be aware that practice work ((i.e. homework/classwork/activities/etc.)
will not be reassessed.
Late and missing work
- Each
assignment will have a due date.
This is the date by which you are expected to submit
the assignment. Grades
will drop one letter grade if the assignment is not turned
in by the due date.
- The
deadline is the last day an assignment will be accepted
for a grade. In some
cases, the due date and the deadline may be the same.
Work not turned in by the deadline will be considered
missing and will be recorded in the grade book as a zero.
- Unless
otherwise stated, all deadlines will fall exactly one week
after the due date.
- It
is your responsibility to make up all missed assignments. If you are absent please call a
classmate or e-mail me so I can send work home for you.
- Accepted
make-ups are for excused absences only.
Extra credit
The MCPS grading policy does not allow for
extra credit.
Supplies
Please come prepared with the following items
each day:
- B-CC
Handbook
- Notebook
with pockets or 3-ring binder with dividers
- Folder
- Pen

( if applicable)
Classroom Expectations
1.
Be
prepared. –Bring your supplies, your homework, and a ready mind.
2.
Be
respectful. –Respect yourself, classmates,
teacher, and classroom.
3.
Be
responsible. –Participate
in class and make-up missed work.
Inability to comply with these expectations
will merit the following consequences:
1st offense – warning
2nd offense – action plan and phone call to
parent
3rd offense – detention
Classroom Procedures
1.
Class
begins the moment you enter the room.
If you need to get supplies, water, or go to the bathroom,
this must be done BEFORE your arrival.
2.
Begin warm-up (primera pratica/ripasso).
Tardy/Late Arrival
Policy
As with school policy, tardiness will not
be tolerated. Remember
3 tardies = 1 unexcused absence.
If you enter late, sign in and take your seat quietly.
I will check with you later to discuss the situation.
Homework Expectations
Homework is given for a reason—to prepare,
to practice, or to review. Homework
assignments will sometimes be handed in for a grade, or used
during the next day’s classwork.
You are expected to complete all homework assignments.
You should plan to review your notes/vocabulary/class
exercises on a consistent basis.

As your teacher, please be aware that I am
