Grade
Level: 10 - 12
Course Description:
In
2006-2007 AP Latin Literature (Catullus - Ovid) is being offered
alongside Latin IVA Honors. Information on the AP Latin Literature
exam requirements are available through the AP website, or simply
email inquiries for further information.
In
Fall 2006 those who prefer to take Latin IVA Honors (which has
been offered in years past) may sign up for this course in order
to read a wider variety of Latin prose and poetry. The Latin IVA-B
Honors sequence will have goals similar to those found in I.B.
Latin courses: advanced readings of prose and poetry, but with
a wider range of authors than those of AP Latin Literature or
AP Vergil. The Latin IVA Honors students will also continue to
use the final book of the Ecce Romani series, Ecce
Roman III, reinforcing forms, grammar and prose.
Any
student who wishes to take either Latin IVH or AP Latin Literature
should be highly motivated and be able to work responsibly and
independently. Permission of the instructor is advised. Note also
that in 2006-2007 I.B. Latin (Standard Level) is continuing on
its course from last year, with Ovid as the prescribed author,
the love poetry of Horace and Catullus as well as Book 2 of Virgil's
Aeneid being the prescribed topics this year.
Grading Scheme:
A
total points system for the following areas: class work, quizzes,
unit tests and designated homework assessments. Reassessment following
reteaching activities are recommended by the teacher for one quiz
or one test per quarter with the exception of Unit Tests which
must be taken only once.
Both
A.P. Latin literature and Latin IV Honors students are also responsible
for researching two Roman authors representing poetry and poetry,
respectively, from a given period; these semester projects must
be presented to the class prior to winter break.
Review Day: January
11, 2007
Semester Exam: January 12-19, 2007
Grading policy:
Grading guidelines will be consistent with the school-wide grading
policy available on the B-CC web-site.
90% of the marking period grade will be based on formative and
summative assessments which may include homework, class work,
quizzes, unit tests, projects, oral presentations, and writing
assignments. These assignments will be graded.
Assignments checked only for completion, such as homework, class
work and warm-ups, will account for 10% of the marking period
grade.
Each assignment will have a due date. This is the date by which
the student is expected to submit the assignment. Grades will
drop 10% if the assignment is not submitted by the due date.
The deadline is the last day that an assignment will be accepted.
In some cases the due date and the deadline will be the same.
Work not turned in by the deadline will be recorded as a zero.
Reassessment
procedures:
In some cases students will have an opportunity to redo and assignment/assessment.
There will be at least one opportunity per unit of study to redo
an assessment. Summative assessments (presentations, tests) may
not be redone. To qualify for a reassessment, students must complete
all practice activities assigned for HW and also complete the
required reteaching exercises offered by the teacher.
Please be advised there will be no opportunities for extra credit.
