Grading Policy

The following B-CC Spanish 1 policies are consistent with the new MCPS Grading and Reporting policy as outlined in Learning, Grading and Reporting Guidelines (MCPS, 2005).  Quarter grades will reflect individual achievement on course objectives and will be determined in the following manner:

Grades will be based on a total points system. 90% of the grade will be made up of assessments (tests, quizzes, projects, speaking assessments, etc…) that will be graded for mastery of course objectives.  10% of the grade will consist of practice activities (homework, classwork and warm-ups) that will be graded for completion.  Grades will be assigned according to the following scale, based on the total points earned:

A              90-100%

B              80-89%

C             70-79%

D             60-69%

E              50-59%

There will be opportunities for reassessment consistent with B-CC policy.

Late and missing work

  • Each assignment will have a due date.  This is the date by which you are expected to submit the assignment.  Grades will drop one letter grade if the assignment is not turned in by the due date.
  • The deadline is the last day an assignment will be accepted for a grade.  In some cases, the due date and the deadline may be the same.  Work not turned in by the deadline will be considered missing and will be recorded in the grade book as a zero.
  • Unless otherwise stated, all deadlines will fall exactly one week after the due date.
  • It is your responsibility to make up all missed assignments.  If you are absent please call a classmate or e-mail me so I can send work home for you.
  • Accepted make-ups are for excused absences only.

Extra credit

The MCPS grading policy does not allow for extra credit.

Communication goal:

Twice per quarter, foreign language teachers will electronically generate a grade sheet for students and parents which lists the topics and types of assessment and  the grade received. In addition, students will be provided with a grid to chart their own grades and to compute their grade at any time. If there is a question or concern, the individual parent or student may request an additional copy of the grade sheet.
