Course Outline:
This course provides the opportunity for experienced singers
to progress through successive levels of choral offerings.
Membership is open to all students, but attainment of the
outcomes of Chorus 1B or auditioned placement is necessary.
Emphasis is on the continuing development vocal technique
and includes a review of posture, breath control, vocal
range and flexibility, and diction. A broadened exposure
to the choral literature of various historical eras and
cultures is provided. Through experience with more varied
and complex repertoire, students continue to explore the
historic, aesthetic, and cultural context of the music,
as well as the social and intellectual influences affecting
its development. A number of performances are given at school
and within the community.
Course Outcomes:
The student will be able to:
1. demonstrate intermediate skills of breath control
and support, tone production, and resonance.
2. demonstrate intermediate performance of choral
diction, intonation, and blend.
3. sing selected repertoire from memory.
4. sight-read music notation from a four-part choral
score.
5. discuss the role of choral singing in a variety
of eras and cultures.
6. describe verbally or in writing the basic music
elements heard in a choral performance.
7. develop and implement criteria for evaluating choral
musical performances.
8. describe in physiological and anatomical terms
the physical act of singing.
