Dear Vocal Music and Guitar parents and students,
I am happy to inform you of continued growth in the music department. However, as enrollment has increased, expenditures to support the program have also increased. Repair costs for guitars continue to edge higher. Folders, choral music, robes, and method books are growing more expensive. Section coaches need to be compensated for their services. The music department must also pay registration fees for MCPS-sponsored music festivals. All these costs mean that fewer funds are available to cover increasing expenditures.
In order to provide a high-quality program, a lab fee must be charged to all students. Course-specific fees are outlined below. The lab fee will be required of all students and will be administered each semester. Fees will help cover instrument repair, lab equipment maintenance, guitar strings, picks, method books, supplemental materials, choir folder repair, recording media, special programs, attire cleaning, music purchases for adjudicator use, and festival registration. Transportation fees will be collected separately for each performance that requires travel off-campus. Concert attire charges will be administered to Madrigals and small performance ensembles only.
Please do not let a lab fee deter you from registering for a music class. If you are unable to pay the lab fee but want to register, please consult with me so we can reach an agreement.
