Course Goals

Our goal is to instill in the student a curiosity about matter and its interactions, to develop an evidence-based approached to solving problems, and to recognize the significance and application of chemistry in real world situations.

Classroom Rules

1)      Please do not bring food, drinks, or gum into science laboratory classrooms.

2)      Sharpen pencils before class, and be ready for class when the bell rings.

3)      Please raise your hand if you have a question or would like to answer a question.

4)      Request the teacher’s signature in your student handbook if you need to leave the room during the class period.

5)      Submit a note to the attendance office when you are absent and present the note to me.  Absences from class will be handled in accordance with Montgomery County Public Schools and Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School policy (see your handbook for details). When you are absent it is your responsibility to check with the teacher for material you missed. Labs can be made up at scheduled times.

What materials do you need?

Each day you will need a pencil, a pen, a notebook designated for chemistry and a quad-ruled composition book for lab work only.

Grades Distribution

1)      Tests                                       (~2 to 3 per quarter)                                         35%

2)      Quizzes                                    (~4 to 6 per quarter)                                         25%

3)      Labs                                         (~5 to 7 per quarter)                                         30%

4)      Homework/Class work                                                                                     10%

5)      The semester exam is worth 25% of your final semester grade.

Reassessments and Make-ups

Reassessments will occur for quizzes, labs, and projects at the teacher’s discretion. Reassessments will take place after school at the designated time. All missed laboratory assignments must be made up on the designated make-up day(s).

Final Letter Grades Will Be Determined as Follows

A = 100-89.5%; B = 89.4-79.5%; C = 79.4-69.5%; D = 69.4-59.5%; E=Below 59.5%
