The Social Studies Department of B-CC believes that the purpose of social studies is to develop the students' appreciation for their past, to give them the tools to analyze the present, and to prepare them for their role as a citizen in the future. Students will learn to think critically, to consider all points of view, and to appreciate the diversity of their society as they pursue a variety of topics.

DEPARTMENT NEWS

2006

The social studies department looks forward to another fantastic school year for 2006-2007. Our staff remains the same for this school year with one exception. Ms. Grenham will be out on maternity leave for the 1st quarter (she is at home teaching US History to her fantastic new baby girl, Natalie). Mr. Josh Singer will serve as the long-term substitute for Ms. Grenham. Mr. Singer is a recent graduate of the University of Virginia and is looking forward to the exciting opportunity of teaching at B-CC.

2005
The social studies department welcomed Nathan Herchenroeder as a new teacher this school year. Nathan is a product of Montgomery County and a graduate of the University of Maryland. He will be teaching NSL Government, US History and Latin American History.

Additionally, Hunter Hogewood joined the department as the new resource teacher this school year. This will be Hunter's 15th year as a teacher, the last 10 years he was at Blair High School. Hunter will be teaching US History this year.
