| General |
The
ninth grade U.S. history curriculum encompasses
American history from Reconstruction through modern
day. A brief review of the causes and consequences
of the American Civil War will preface our first
unit on Reconstruction. |
| Activities |
Typical
classroom activities will include short lectures,
class discussions, student presentations, videos
and both group and individual projects. |
| Exams
|
Exams
and quizzes will cover material either covered
in class or assigned for homework. During the
last week of the semester students will be given
a final exam which will cover ALL material covered
throughout the semester. |
| Attendance
|
Attendance
in class is mandatory. All absences must be reported
to the attendance office within three days and
will only be excused with a note from home. Unexcused
absences from class will result in detention and
a phone call home. After three unexcused absences
a letter will be sent home from the main office
and after five unexcused absences the student
will receive a “loss of credit” for
the course. |
| Tardiness
|
Students
have plenty of time to get to class and should
simply not be late. Three tardies will result
in lunch or after-school detention and a phone
call home. Five unexcused tardies equal one unexcused
absence. |
| Grades |
Grades
will be based on students’ level of mastery
on academic objectives. Effort, participation
and completion of homework will be vital to students’
academic achievement. A variety of assessment
methods will be used throughout the semester to
check academic mastery as is shown below: |
| |
Formal
assessments (tests and quizzes) = 45% of grade
Alternative assessments (essays, projects, presentations)
= 25% of grade
Daily work (class work, group work, homework)
= 30% of grade
|
| Make-Up
|
It
is the responsibility of the student
to make sure that all make-up work is completed
within three days after returning to school. Students
returning from an absence should check the “absentee
folder” upon returning to class for any
missed assignments. |
| Late
Work |
There
will be two dates set by the teacher when giving
assignments. The date that the assignment is
due is called the “due date.” All
work should be turned in by this date to receive
full credit. The “deadline,” which
is also given for the same assignment, is the
last day that the assignment will be accepted,
with the deduction of a letter grade as penalty.
Absolutely no assignments will be accepted
after the deadline.
