Bio:
Mrs. Irina Ivasovic LaGrange was born and raised in Zagreb,
Croatia. At the age of ten, she went on a vacation to Hawaii.
The island’s beauty overwhelmed her family, and they
stayed. Mrs. LaGrange had to learn English quickly because
she was the only non-English or Japanese speaker in her
class. Eventually she moved to Washington, D.C., and then
Bethesda. She completed her undergraduate work at University
of Maryland where she majored in English. With the support
of Teach for America, she spent the next six years teaching
middle school English in New York City. Mrs. LaGrange attained
her masters degree in secondary English from Columbia University,
where she had the opportunity to further savor her favorite
literary works. Some of her dearest writers are Iris Murdoch,
Vladimir Nabokov, Alice Walker, Milan Kundera, Miroslav
Krleza, James Baldwin, Pablo Neruda, and Seamus Deane.
The former Ms. Irina Ivasovic came to B-CC in 2003, and
for the next two years, taught 9th and 10th grade English
and was the sponsor for the sophomore class and for Chips,
B-CC's literary magazine. She was married in June, 2005
(her husband is a B-CC grad!), and shortly thereafter, was
named B-CC's Student Support Specialist, the main administrator
for the 10th and 11th grades.
In her spare time Mrs. LaGrange loves to travel to far away
places. She also loves to walk around and get lost in foreign
cities. She
also enjoys knitting funky scarves and spending time with her husband and two children.
