PHILOSOPHY and BIOGRAPHY

After teaching health for 15 years, I still love it! The diversity in the topics keeps me up to date on the latest scientific facts as well as current events. It’s also a great opportunity for the students to get involved and participate in a classroom discussion.

Health class covers seven major areas. These include mental health, drugs, safety and injury prevention, nutrition and fitness, disease prevention, and family life. I often tell parents and students that this is the most important class that students will ever take in high school. It's not because I teach it, but because it gives the students real life information about themselves, their health, and provides an awareness of those around them. "Health does the body, mind and spirit good!"

So, you want to know where I went to school? For both my undergraduate and graduate degrees, I attended Towson University. They have a really great health program.

What do I enjoy besides teaching? … In my personal time I enjoy hiking with my two sweet dogs Lakota and Rico in the deep woods of Damascus, where I live. Yes, it takes me about 50 minutes to an hour to get to school. But that is ok, I turn on my XM radio and I am good to go. I rescued both of my dogs from animal shelters. Rico is a German Shepherd and Lakota is part husky, German Shepherd and part cattle dog too. I also have my Koi fish. I love them! I have 20 fish now. I love to go to Kio auctions and see the many different kinds of Koi. So many pretty fish! My fish do take up a lot of my time but they give me much peace when I see them in my pond. Some even eat out of my hands.

I do make time to pamper myself by getting a massage and a facial every once in awhile. I love to have friends and family over. I also love fast cars and I enjoy putting after-market parts on them and painting them cool colors. My cars do stick out. You will know when I am coming down the road. I love to eat hot spicy foods.......well any food that is flavorful. I enjoy thrilling, action movies as well as documentary films. I also enjoy seeing some sappy films as long as they have a good plot. I love to read anything that has to do with health or financial stuff. I would love to tie finance into my health class. It is scary to see so many kids are going into debt when they are in college. Many kids don’t understand the importance of saving money for the future. I plan on creating a lesson on that topic in my health classes. I also enjoy studying and participating in Ancient Native American ceremonies and health traditions.
