Bio:
Born in Jerusalem, Israel, not speaking a word of English,
Ms. Palchick came to the United States when she was eight
years old. She learned the language quickly because of her
love of reading. She received her B.A. in Psychology from
Miami University in Ohio and her Masters degree in Secondary
Education with a concentration in English from American
University. She taught in Calvert County, Maryland for a
few years before returning to school to get a degree in
counseling. She returned to teaching in 1994 and joined
the staff of B-CC. She taught in the Ninth Grade Academy,
an interdisciplinary program that linked English with U.
S. history. She was also one of three teachers responsible
for developing and implementing the curriculum for the college
literacy classes.
In the summer of 2005, Ms. Palchick moved from being an
English teacher to being a guidance counselor at B-CC. "Now,
I am lucky to be able to see the world of education through
two sets of eyes," said Ms. Palchick.
Ms. Palchick considers Lord of the Flies by William
Golding and The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald
among the most influential books she has read. Even greater
than her love of reading is her love for her three sons.
Ms. Palchick also enjoys running and cycling, Her most extreme
sport, however, is flying on the trapeze.
