IB Diploma Program Requirements

Students who participate in the IB Diploma Program fulfill the requirement list for both the Maryland State Department of Education graduation requirements and the IB.

MSDE Requirements
1. Course work and passing grades on examinations from six subject groups
1. Passing all required MCPS Examinations When you click on the link to the left, a second browser window will be opened up.  Close that window when you are done to return to the B-CC site.
2. Completion of 150 hours of CAS (Creativity, Action and Service) education
2. Completion of 60 hours of Student Service Learning
3. Completion of Guided Research course (one semester), resulting in 4,000 word Extended Essay
3. Completing course work in fine arts, technology, health, and physical education When you click on the link to the left, a second browser window will be opened up.  Close that window when you are done to return to the B-CC site. . This coursework should be completed by the sophomore year.
4. Completion of “Theory of Knowledge” (TOK) which consists of two semester courses, TOK I, and TOK II.

Students successfully completing the IB Diploma Program earn an IB Diploma, a Maryland high school diploma, and a certificate of merit. Students successfully completing IB course work, and receiving a score of four through seven on a Higher Level examination, may be considered for credit and/or placement on a subject by subject basis in accordance with the policy of the institution of higher learning.
