Drama Club

2006-2007

Club Function:
The B-CC Drama Club is one of the three branches of the B-CC Theater Program. The club is run by four elected officers: the President (a role fulfilled by a senior), the MHST representative, the Fundraiser, and the Communications Secretary. The club brings drama-related activities in and out of the school to the attention of students who are interested in drama. Every year some members of the club participate in MHST (Maryland High School Theater) festivals such as the Improv Festival, State Festival, and National Festival. Members of the club have performed well at these events and won awards. Another focus of the club is fundraising. The money the club raises goes towards sending students to the National Theatre Festival which has a high entry fee and helping to cover the costs of student participation in the various MHST activities and festivals. There is no set membership, everyone is welcome.

EDINBURGH FRINGE FESTIVAL
Attention Freshman, Sophomores, and Juniors. Are you interested in getting a taste of what's involved in producing theater in the real world? Does producing and taking a show to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland during the summer of 2008 sound like something you might enjoy? Then read on.

For those of you who don't know, the Edinburgh Fringe festival is officially the largest theater arts festival in the world. In 2006, hundreds of groups participated putting on 1,867 different shows with a total of 28,014 performances in 261 venues--all within the month of August!

Mr. Boswell attended "The Fringe" in 2005 was blown away by the energy and talent of the performers, many of which were high school groups, which of course got him thinking...and thinking...and thinking. After much thinking and talking it over with Mr. Taylor, Mr. Boswell believes B-CC Theater is in a position to actually take a production to the fringe (and allow students to get IB Theatre credit for it!), but first he wants to know if enough students are interested--and that's what the meeting is about.

If you're idea of a good time is to eat, sleep, and breath theater, then
show up in the TV Studio next to the library during lunch this Thursday,
Feb. 1. Note: a large turn out is required for this project to go forward
beyond the discussion phase, so if this idea really excites you, SHOW UP! Seniors, you are, of course, more than welcome to listen in and contribute ideas!

TALENT SHOW MEETING - JANUARY 31
There is going to be a critically important Talent Show meeting this
Wednesday, January 31 in the AUDITORIUM for those interested in helping to organize the talent show this year.

For those of you who don't know, the talent show is going to be a
competition with awards given for the best and most bizarre acts. More
importantly, this is Drama Club's moment to shine. Drama Club has organized the event for the last four years, and it acts as a benefit for charity (NIH Children's Inn) and help to offset costs of the annual Theater Banquet (allowing the seniors to attend for free). If you've been to the banquet, you know how awesome it is. If you know about the Children's Inn, you know how awesome it is. However, it takes YOUR INVOLVEMENT to make these awesome things happen.

We will be having various committees working on the talent show, so whether you are interested in working on crew, helping with auditions, helping with publicity, working on front-of-house staff, etc, or even if you would just like to express your ideas on what you'd like to see happen with the talent show, COME TO THE MEETING and let us know what you are interested in. This is a student run project and does not happen without students. SENIORS, since this benefits you directly, it's important for moral if you lend a hand--we know your busy, but we need you! EVERYONE ELSE, we need you too (there are more of you!)

Auditions to perform in the talent show will take place in mid-February (after states), but it is still possible to help out with the production and perform at the same time. Note: Wednesday's meeting has nothing to do with auditions--just organizing the show. There will be an audition meeting soon.

The talent show is a great way to get involved if you haven't done any shows yet, so please come to the auditorium on Wednesday and show your support (and tell your theatrically inclined friends who aren't on dramanet).
