Tri-M is the Music Honors Society at B-CC (it stands for Modern Music Masters). This year our president is Eric Applebaum, and our co-vice presidents are myself (Beck Friedman) and Michelle Fraioli.  Our goals in Tri-M goals are to recognize those students who have excelled at music, and to help bring music to the community. We recognize students by accepting them into the society, and we share music with the community by bringing together all of the members of Tri-M to organize music-related events. We have helped the community by hosting the MCPS high school orchestra festival at B-CC, and by working backstage at our school's music concerts. We have also organized some community events this year including Sounds for Seniors and Battle of the Bands.

In December the members of Tri-M along with other eager members of the B-CC music community came together to organize a concert for the senior citizens at Springhouse Assisted Living called Sounds for Seniors. The performances included all sorts of instrument solos as well as some groups, which included a euphonium trio, the jazz combo, and an Indy rock band. All of the performances went very well, and were received very enthusiastically by the audience. Because both the students who played in it and the seniors in the audience enjoyed the concert so much, we are planning another one later this spring.

The other main event being put on by Tri-M this year is the B-CC Battle of the Bands. This year, for the first time, Tri-M is hosting this event, as we felt it was necessary to continue this long standing B-CC musical tradition which would have otherwise come to an end. Taking place on Friday, May 9, we are inviting bands from the B-CC music community to come play their songs in a friendly competition. People who come to watch the concert will have to pay for tickets, whose proceeds are going to the B-CC music department.

This has so far been a very successful year for Tri-M, as we have been able to achieve our goals of recognizing those who have excelled in music, and we are organizing many events which have and will share our gift of music with the community.
