How to Help Your Student Get the Most out
of B-CC
The first PTSA meeting of the year will be TUESDAY, Sept
18 at 7:00 pm in the cafeteria. Two great reasons to come
out: 1.BCC's architect will present plans for five new classrooms
in the school's lower level (7:15-7:30.) Then...even better...at
7:45 the 9th Grade Peer Parents will host a Q&A panel:
INSIDERS' GUIDE to BCC.
Still spinning from Back to School night? Got some questions
that you're dying to ask, but don't know where? Send your
questions and get answers from experienced parents - and
students - on the ins and outs of BCC - social issues--
parties, open lunch, clubs - striking a balance- homework
and extracurricular activities; logistics/communicating
with teachers and administrators; accommodations; eligibility;
emergencies.... and MORE.
If you're wondering about something, chances are, others
are, too! Email your questions in advance to the 9th Grade
Peer Parents, or ask at the meeting! In by 7 out by 9!

Brief PTSA Meeting: 7:00
"State of B-CC": 7:30
Read
the Recap of Mr. Bulson's presentation |
MR. BULSON'S "STATE
OF B-CC" AND PTSA MEETING ON TUESDAY, OCTOBER 16
Make sure to get dinner on the table early so that you can
attend Sean Bulson's second "State of B-CC Address"
tonight. Imagine, in a little over an hour, you can learn
a tremendous amount about what is going on at B-CC this
year. The PTSA and the administration have been stressing
the need to get more connected to B-CC. Attending this program
is a great start.
I also want to invite everyone to a brief PTSA
business meeting which will begin at 7pm. Both events will
take place in the auditorium.
PTSA members, your extra copy of the directory will be
available for pick up both before and after Mr. Bulson's
presentation. If you
haven't joined yet, arrive tonight with a check and we will
give you a student directory to take home. If you are unfortunate
that you have a conflict preventing you from attending the
program, member's unclaimed directories will be mailed home
at the end of the week.

NO NOVEMBER PTSA MEETING
SCHEDULED
To make sure everyone has enough time to start those Thanksgiving
preparations, there will be no November PTSA meeting.
We hope to see you at the December 18th meeting during
which we will welcome our MYP Coordinator, Martha Cohen-Tomlinson
and IB Coordinator, Beth Groeneman. Please join is as they
explain how MYP
and the IB diploma programs support the development of valuable,
lifelong learning skills. This is a great opportunity to
better understand the beneficial aspects of the MYP Personal
Project and the programs that are central to the Diploma
program.
Also, the Guidance Advisory Committee and the 11th Grade
Parent Peers are sponsoring "Prep for the Test".
This annual program is great opportunity to explore lots
of options for SAT preparation programs
and find out the pros and cons of different options. "Prep
for the Test" will be held on Tuesday, November 27th
in the cafeteria.
Wishing a happy Thanksgiving to all!! |
DECEMBER
PTSA MEETING - TUES., DEC 18
7:00 UPDATE FROM PTSA & MR. BULSON
7:30 PROGRAM |
I hope you will be able to join us for a great program
next Tuesday, December 18th. Beginning at 7:30, Beth Groeneman,
IB Program Coordinator, Martha Cohen, B-CC MYP Program Coordinator
and Margie Lope, Westland MYP Program Coordinator, will
present a program which will provide an overview of the
IB programs in the cluster. They will
focus specifically on the process - what the continuum of
the IB programs in our cluster should be teaching our students
to do. The program they have prepared will not only show,
but will also involve the attendees in IB-style learning.
This program will present a great opportunity to understand
why B-CC has elected to incorporate the IB model for all
ninth and tenth graders and believes it is a great option
for 11th and 12th graders. This is expected to be an interactive
program where learner profiles are addressed. As the three
Program Coordinators take a look at the IB programs, they
will talk about the Areas of Interaction and Theory of Knowledge,
and then the progression from the Personal Project to the
Extended Essay and the assessments in the Diploma Program.
This focus will show what the inquiry-based model of instruction
looks like
in the classroom and ultimately, what a student in MYP and
DP gains by participating in the process.
As always, there will be a brief business meeting prior
to the program. You are all invited to join us at 7pm to
get an update from the PTSA and Mr. Bulson. |
Tuesday, January 25, 1008
As always, their will be a PTSA business meeting
beginning at 7pm which is open to all, and it will be followed
by the program at 7:30. |
As our students prepare for their week of exams, it is
hard to imagine that they are only a few weeks away from
registering for classes for the next school year. How fortunate
our students are to have so many choices. There are honors,
IB and AP classes. There are a huge variety of foreign languages
to choose from. There are lots of options in the arts. How
do all these options come together to make a successful
high school experience?
We all want our students to be successful in school....
but what does that mean? Please join us for the program
Tuesday night where we will address how we as a team, parents,
teachers, students and administrators, can work towards
a successful high school experience. Rigor is the word that
we hear so often. Come hear why that has become the buzz
word of this decade and how it plays into your student's
decisions and contributes to their success.
As always, their will be a PTSA business meeting
beginning at 7pm which is open to all, and it will be followed
by the program at 7:30. |
| February 19, 2008 |
I hope you will be able to join us for the PTSA meeting
tomorrow night. The meeting will be an open board meeting
where members of the B-CC community are encouraged to join
us to get an update on what is going on at B-CC these days.
Take advantage of this opportunity to meet with board members
and committee chairs to discuss issues that might be of importance
to you. The original program which was intended to address
how we as a community can positively approach our
diversity will remain an item on the agenda but without a
formal program. The program will begin at 7:30. I hope to
see you then.

| March 18, 2008 |
Please join us this Tuesday evening for our monthly PTSA
meeting which will begin at 7pm with a brief business
meeting. Following the meeting, there will be a
panel discussion addressing stress, particularly how to cope
with it. The meeting will be held in the Chorus Room.
For those planning on attending the Sports Boosters Pot-Luck,
what great timing. After a bite to eat and meetings with
coaches, just come downstairs and join us when you can.
