Subject: Public Comment on Board of Education Policy FKB, Modernization/Renovation Policy
The Montgomery County Board of Education has requested community comment regarding its revised Policy FKB, Modernization/Renovation. This policy sets forth the guidelines to establish a systematic approach for replacement of building systems and facilities. The focus of the policy was shifted to sustaining schools in good condition through systematic life-cycle asset replacement, as well as modernization. The proposed revisions acknowledge that improved initial construction methods now enable Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) to extend the useful life of school buildings and the length of time before full modernization/replacement of schools is required.
The process of seeking public comment is designed to ensure that Board policies are easily accessible to a wide audience of interested parties who may wish to have input in policy development. A copy of the draft policy and the regulatory framework is attached to this e-mail. Individuals who wish to provide comments may respond in writing by Friday, October 29, 2010. Responses should be sent to the Office of the Superintendent of Schools, 850 Hungerford Drive, Room 122, Rockville, Maryland 20850. The responses will be shared with the members of the Board of Education.
