Dear Kindergarten Parents:

The first days of school have been very busy. We're proud of the kindergarteners and their ability to adjust so quicklly to our routine. Below is a brief description of what we will be learning in the first quarter.

MATH
Our focus for the next 8 weeks will be centered around patterning, sorting objects by similarities, describing positions of an object (top, middle, bottom, etc.), and ways of organizing data(graphing and tallying).

SOCIAL STUDIES
We began our All About School unit by taking a tour around the school. We have been meeting new staff members and learning about their jobs.

SCIENCE
Our science unit integrates our study of colors and shapes. The children will have an opportunity to make discoveries through many hands on activities.

LANGUAGE ARTS
We've been busy bees with our Nursery Rhyme unit. We are using our favorite rhymes to listen for rhyming words and to sequence the events in the poem. Each quarter we will focus on certain high frequency words. In our room we have a word wall. We will display these words on our wall.

Your child's kindergarten folder will come home daily. Please check the folder for notices, homework, etc. and send back the empty folder the next day. It is the child's responsibility to remove any notes from their folder and place them in the note basket. This system prevents lost papers and teaches the children to be responsible for their things.
