August - Back To School!

“Working, Learning, and Growing Together”

Dear Parents,                                                                        August, 2009

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself.  My name is Brian Lucas and I am beginning my nineteenth year of teaching elementary school. I did my undergraduate studies at Clarion University of Pennsylvania, and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education.  I completed graduate school at Hood College, and received my Master’s of Science Degree in Educational Leadership. Additionally, through the National Boards for Professional Teaching Standards, I have become a National Board Certified Teacher. As a National Board Certified Teacher, I have had many opportunities to guide and teach teachers throughout the state of Maryland.  Part of my responsibility is to continually reflect and analyze my teaching strategies based on student successes, while using the most recent research and highly effective techniques.
My hometown is Blairsville, which is fifty miles east of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.  However, I currently reside in Kemptown, Maryland with my wife Michelle, my daughter Kelsey, and my son Braydon.  Kelsey is in 7th grade and Braydon is in 4th grade.
My objective for this school year is to create a classroom environment conducive to student learning and achievement.  I hope to achieve this environment by encouraging independence, creating good work habits, and promoting responsibility in the children.  By establishing and working toward these objectives, I feel we can better prepare your child for his or her upcoming school year.  My motto this school year will be that “Effective Effort Equals Success.”
I look forward to making this an enjoyable and successful year.  Please feel free to contact me at school anytime, and check out our class Web site for monthly news and updates.  The Web Site is linked to the Cedar Grove Web Site.  Our phone number is 301-253-7000.

                                                                                                Sincerely,
                                                                                                Brian C. Lucas, NBCT
