Foreign Language in Elementary School (FLES)
At FLES, we strongly believe that a child whose curiosity about another language and culture is awakened will be better prepared to participate and interact in our increasingly global community.
Spanish, French and Mandarin language instruction is offered at Chevy Chase Elementary school to students in grades 3-6. The one hour classes meet once a week from October through May. The focus is on exposure to a foreign language with emphasis on oral acquisition through songs, games, cultural notes and a sequential curriculum. The PTA chairperson coordinates enrollment, scheduling, etc. Parents are responsible for the fee.
