| How do students schedule a meeting with their counselor? |
- Counselors are available to students on a drop-in basis before school, 7-7:20 a.m. and during lunch, 10:45 - 11:30 a.m.
- Students can make appointments with their counselor by signing the counselor's appointment sheet, located in the waiting area.
- Parents can make appointments with counselors by calling (301) 469-1211.
- Parents requesting specific class information are encouraged to make direct teacher contact.

| How does a student make a schedule change? |
Each spring, students have the opportunity to select their classes. There will be no schedule changes made after school begins except when a student:
- *Failed a prerequisite course and cannot continue in that course.
- *Attended summer school and can advance in sequence.
- *Registered at the wrong level, i.e. should be in Spanish 2 and is incorrectly scheduled in Spanish 4.
- *Received a course for which he/she did not register because of a master schedule conflict.
- *SCHEDULES WILL NOT BE CHANGED BASED ON TEACHER PREFERENCE.

| What can a student do if he or she is not doing well in a class? |
- Teachers are available outside of class to help students. It is the student's responsibility to let the teachers know that he/she would like to meet with them and schedule an agreed upon time.
- Various departments have lunch and after-school tutoring. Students may check with their teachers or the resource teacher for meeting dates, times, and locations.
- Academic departments have lists of recommended out-of-school tutors. In addition, there is a help-yourself tutor file located in the counseling waiting area.
- Tutors are available through the National Honor Society. NHS tutoring forms can be picked up in the counseling office.
- Late (activity) buses are available Tuesday and Thursday.

| How can parents monitor a student's progress? |
| Parents can access a student's progress on Edline, a website that displays grades throughout the year.

| How do students register for summer school? |
| Summer
school schedules are available in the
counseling office, usually in May. Registration
occurs through June, and classes begin
in early July. Students may take two semesters
of summer school earning a maximum of
one credit. Courses failed during the
year may need to be repeated in summer
school. Students should consult with their
counselor about course selection. A student
cannot register for summer school without
a counselor's signature. |
| How does a student obtain age of majority? |
| Age
of majority occurs when a student has
attained 18 years of age or is married.
Forms to claim Age of Majority are available
in the registrar's office. Students can
request this form when they turn 18. |
| How can a student obtain a work permit? |
| Work permits can be obtained by a secretary in the counseling office. A work permit is needed for each job held by a student until he or she reaches age 18. |
| If a student fails courses during the year,
are they retained? |
Students are promoted to the next grade based on the total number of credits earned. If a student fails a course, the student should see his or her counselor.
