The Clarksburg High School Signature Program includes two strands of participation available to a Clarksburg High School student. One is the APPS Program (Advanced Placement Power Scholars Program) and the other is the Capstone Project Program. Students have the option of participating in one or both strands.

The Advanced Placement Power Scholars Program (APPS)

The Capstone Project Program

The Advanced Placement Power Scholar Program (APPS):

The APPS Program is designed as a four year course of study through which students follow a comprehensive curriculum combining honors level and advanced placement level course work.  Students accepted into the program will follow a rigorous academic plan designed to challenge the highly motivated learner. Students must apply to the program which will begin in the ninth grade year. Applications are accepted March 1 through May 1 of the students 8 th grade year.

Students will receive structured support and skill refinement through their honors and advanced placement courses as well as through periodic meetings and seminars held at school.  The program is designed to offer students flexibility in their schedules and allow them to pursue individual educational goals through their four years of study at Clarksburg High School.

Capstone Project Program:

The Capstone Project Program is directed toward juniors and seniors. It is designed around completing a project in an area of interest to the student through either an upper level class or as an independent study. It focuses in areas of Science, Technology and Engineering. It allows the student to set an individual curriculum or topic of study.
Its purpose is to:
—Allow students to pursue study in an area of interest and demonstrate skills and knowledge they have acquired during their high school academic career.
—To further develop skills of research, independent learning and problem solving that are of benefit to the transition to college or the world of work.

The project emphasizes collaboration, research, creativity, writing, and oral presentation and seeks to build a bridge for students between educational skills and their relevancy in the real world.

The phases of the Capstone Project include the development of a project exploring possible career pathways or investigating an area of strong interest, a five to ten page research paper on a related topic,  a 10-15 minute presentation before a panel of staff with a presentation at a Signature Showcase that includes a visual display of their efforts in the Spring of their Junior or Senior year.
