Einstein honored its seniors Jazmine Johnson, Anna Lourie, Georgia MacLean and Ingrid Rivas in the varsity team's final home game of the season on Tuesday, facing crosstown rival Kennedy High School in a match rescheduled from Sept. 27. The two evenly matched teams failed to convert on early scoring chances, and the game remained scoreless at halftime. The Lady Titans dominated play in the second half, spending much of their time at Kennedy's end of the field. Einstein got strong play from its seniors as well as juniors Monique Fillipini and Toni Birdsong, sophomore Lauren Birdsong and freshman Elise Frank. Despite their efforts, the Titans couldn't get the ball into the goal.
Kennedy capitalized on a sudden opportunity with seconds left on the clock. Kennedy was awarded a corner, and converted the corner with no time remaining. Kennedy walked away with a 1-0 victory.

Blake stepped up the pace in the second half and stretched its lead for a 6-0 win.

Blair Blazers Down Titans

The Einstein field hockey teams hosted Blair High School on a damp Friday evening, but both varsity and junior varsity fell to the Blazers' determined scoring.
The Titans JV players gave up one goal and were unable to convert on several scoring attempts in the first half. The Titans gave up a second goal at the beginning of the second half, then player Michaela Vila put in the team's first goal of the season. The girls continued to challenge the Blazers, but gave up two more goals for a final score of 4-1.
The varsity girls then took the field to the cheers of a boisterous home crowd. The two teams traded scoring drives, with Blair taking a 1-0 lead at half time. The tug-of-war continued in the second half, as the two teams pressured each other's goal. Titans junior midfielder Meredith Giblin and freshman attack Elize Frank just missed a connection to score. Blair scored again despite strong play from junior stopper Mallory Buckingham and goalie Ingrid Rivas.
The final score recorded a Blair win of 2-0.

9/10/08
Einstein vs Watkins Mill 7 p.m.

Titans Shoot Down Watkins Mill

The Einstein varsity field hockey team, led by the strong play of senior Jazmine Johnson, faced down tough opponent Watkins Mill High School and claimed a 3-1 win in the Titans' home opener Wednesday night.
Einstein was coming off a disappointing appearance in its season opener Sept. 8 against  Gaithersburg, when the team failed to score in a 6-0 loss. The Titans' struggles continued in the first minutes as they faced Watkins Mill, who defeated them last year in sudden-death overtime. Watkins Mill took a 1-0 lead, then the Einstein girls tightened their defense and went on the attack. Johnson smashed a shot into the back of the goal, and it was 1-1 at halftime.
Einstein continued its strong play in the second half, shutting down the Watkins Mill offense. Johnson put two more balls in the goal, scoring a "hat trick," or three goals in one game. That sealed Einstein's victory.
Titans field hockey takes the home field again this Friday, Sept. 12, with junior varsity scheduled to play at 5:30 p.m., and varsity at 7 p.m.
