Tough Titans Outlast Cavaliers

Behind a career-high 17 points and perfect free-throw shooting by senior Vicky Pappas, the visiting Lady Titans edged host Kennedy Cavaliers 45-39 on Tues., Jan. 13.
The contest was a tug-of-war, with neither team having more than a six-point at any time in the game.
Despite opening up an 8-2 lead in the first four minutes of the game, Einstein trailed at the end of the first quarter 11-8. The Titans forced numerous turnovers in the second quarter, and used the newfound momentum to score 16 points in the period and open up a 24-21 lead at the half.
The third quarter was a struggle for Einstein as the Cavaliers switched to an aggressive man-to-man defense, which limited AEHS to just six points in the period.
The final period followed script, as the game remained tight right up to the final minute. However, Pappas' clutch free-throw shooting (six-for-six in the quarter, and nine-for-nine in the game) was the difference down the stretch as the Titans held on for a hard-fought victory.

Einstein vs Northwood V 7 p.m.

Lady Titans Come On Strong Against Northwood

The Jan. 9 match-up between the varsity Lady Titans and Northwood Gladiators may have ended 53-46 in favor of Northwood, but the Titans demonstrated gutsy play and shooting.
The Einstein girls lagged in a rocky first quarter, which closed 18-7 for Northwood. By the end of the first half, the Lady Titans trimmed Northwood's lead to 31-24. Senior guard Vicky Pappas, with 7 points in the first half, threw a half-court buzzer-beater that is captured on Coach Tim Hobbs' game tape and had Einstein fans whooping.
The Titans launched the second half with more disciplined play, outscoring Northwood and holding the game to 42-36 at the end of the third quarter. In the fourth, with 1:30 to go, the Titans came within two points, 48-46. Then a Northwood player was fouled, and the game turned to Northwood's favor.
Top scorers for Einstein were Pappas with 14, senior Andie Solomon with 10 and sophomore Hayes Linebaugh with 9.
The varsity girls next travel to Kennedy High School for a 7 p.m. game.

Einstein vs Rockville V 7 p.m.

Rams Run Away From Titans

Fueled by a 28-7 run that began in the second quarter and extended through the third, the Rockville Rams toppled the varsity Lady Titans with a score of 40-30 on Fri., Dec. 12 at home.
Early in the game, things looked for the Titans as they applied a pressure defense and raced to a 13-4 lead over Rockville. But as the game continued, Einstein proved to be its own worst enemy.
The team's inability to convert offensively proved too much for the team to overcome, despite its best defensive effort of the early season.
Senior Vicky Pappas led the team in scoring with 11 points, while sophomore Hayes Linebaugh pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds, a repeat of her rebounding performance against Churchill earlier in the week.

On Fri., Dec. 5 at Blair, the varsity Lady Titans tipped off the season by falling to the host Blazers 53-41. The girls started with a sluggish offense and trailed 23-5 midway through the second quarter.
