Einstein at 3A State Indoor Track Championships

Ribbons and a Medal for Titan Runners at State Competition

   Einstein's Indoor Track Team had a strong showing Feb. 17 at the Maryland 3A State Indoor Track Championships, boosting the team's standing and garnering a medal and ribbons for individual runners.
   The final results included a third place finish for Sam Asiamah in the 55 meter hurdles , a fifth place finish for Dawit Zewdie in the 800 meter run, and a sixth place finish in the  boys 4 x 800 meter relay for Jonathan Bullock, Andrew Ceruzzi, Adam Boothman and Zewdie.
   For the Titan girls, Katy Rebois finished 10th in the 55 meter hurdles. The 4 x 800 relay team of Sisi Reid, Kate McCully, Ariam Solomon and Yodit Solomon finished in 10 place.
   Here's the play-by-play from Coach Eric DaSilva:
   The meet at the PG Sportsplex in Landover, MD started for the Titans with the girls 4 x 800 meter relay team of Reid, Ariam Solomon, McCully, and Yodit Solomon. Sisi ran the first leg, handing off to Ariam, who split a personal best time of 2:28 to get the team into 10th place. By the time Kate received the baton, the team was running by itself. Kate split a 2:38 to maintain the team's place, and Yodit finished off the 10th place run with a 2:32 split for an overall time of 10:20.
   The boys 4 x 800 meter relay of  Bullock, Ceruzzi, Boothman, and Zewdie took the track and staged an impressive performance. Jonathan led off, taking two seconds off his personal best time, running a 2:09. Andrew was next in line, running another 2:09, shaving six seconds off his personal best time. Adam Boothman took to the track in a battle for sixth place and ran a 2:08, a personal best by seven seconds. He gave the baton to Dawit in 6th place. Dawit ran a 2:05, maintaining 6th place in an overall time of 8:33 (a season's best by 15 seconds), scoring one point for the team standings, and earning ribbons for the entire relay.
    Asiamah was next on the track in the 55 meter hurdles semi-finals. He ran an 8.46 to finish second in his heat and advance to the finals.
    Rebois then entered the blocks to run the 55 meter hurdles. She finished fourth in her heat and 10th overall. However, she ran a personal best time of 9.45, a .3 second improvement.
   In the final of the boys 55 meter hurdles, Sam maintained focus while one of his competitors crashed into the hurdles and fell. Sam tied his personal best with an 8.29-second time. He finished third, earning a bronze medal and six points in the team standings.
   Einstein's final competitor was Dawit in the 800 meter run. Dawit ran a strong race, finishing fifth in a time of 2:05.01. He earned his second ribbon of the day and added two more points to the team score, completing Einstein's scoring with nine points and a 15th place team finish. For the boys, it was most impressive to have every entry score with 6th place or better finishes.

Einstein at 3A West Regional Meet

Strong Titan Runners Qualify for State Competition

   The Einstein Indoor Track Team had a successful showing Feb. 4 at the 3A West Region Meet in Baltimore. The boys were led by the 4 x 800 meter relay team of Jonathan Bullock, Andrew Ceruzzi, Adam Boothman, and Dawit Zewdie, who finished in second place and qualified for the state meet scheduled for Feb. 17. Sam Asiamah and Ibrahim Raheem took third place and fifth place in the 55 meter hurdles. Sam qualified for the state meet, Ibrahim missed qualifying by six-thousandths of a second.
   Andrew Ceruzzi scored in the 3200 meter run with a fifth place finish. Dawit Zewdie finished third in the 800 meter run, qualifying for the state meet, and the boys ended the meet with a fifth place finish in the 4 x 400 meter relay by the team of Ibrahim, Sam, Jonathan and Dawit.
   The girls also had strong performances. The 4 x 800 meter relay team of Sisi Reid, Ariam Solomon, Kate McCully and Yodit Solomon finished fourth and qualified for the state meet. Senior Mary Claire Erskine won her heat of the girls 1600 meter run and is headed to the state meet. Katy Rebois finished fourth in the 55 meter hurdles, qualifying for the state meet. Sisi Reid finished fifth in the 3200 meter run, and the girls 4 x 400 meter relay team of Lauren Birdsong, Ariam Solomon, Katy Rebois and Yodit Solomon finished fifth as well.

Einstein at Montgomery Invitational

Titans Are Tough Competitors at Invitational

   On a difficult field that drew participants from 110 schools, 10 members of Einstein's Indoor Track Team competed in the 8th Annual Montgomery Invitational Meet on Sat., Jan. 10 at the Prince George's SportsPlex. Here are the results:

Girls

4 x 800  team -- Sisi Reid, Ariam Solomon, Kate McCully and Yodit Solomon took 21st place. Kate McCully ran a personal best split of 2:38

55-meter dash -- Lauren Birdsong (8.15) took 51st place.

55-meter high hurdles -- Katy Rebois (9.74) took 32nd place.

1600-meter run -- Sisi Reid (5:56) placed 54th.

400-meter dash -- Ariam Solomon (1:07) placed 46th.

800-meter run -- Yodit Solomon (2:34) took 31st place.

4 x 400-meter relay -- Katy Rebois, Ariam Solomon, Yodit Solomon, Lauren Birdson (4:31) took 21st place.

Long jump -- Katy Rebois offically marked at 14', 8.75", Unofficial tally showed her jumping 15'8", and it was not listed. This jump would tie for current best jump in Montgomery.

Boys

55-meter hurdles -- Sam Asiamah (8.53) 26th place.

400-meter dash -- Ibrahim Raheem (57.89) 65th place

800-meter run -- Dawit Zewdie (2:07) 27th place

4 x 200-meter relay -- Dawit Zewdie, Sam Asiamah, Jonathan Bullock, Ibrahim Raheem (1:39.49) 44th place.

4 x 400 meter relay -- Sam Asiamah, Jonathan Bullock, Ibrahim Raheem, Dawit Zewdie (4:03) in 44th place.
