Presidents Message
We're off to a great start this year. We began with a welcome back luncheon for the teachers and staff in August. In September, we had a social for the entire Fairland community and sponsored the Book Fair. In October, we helped clean up the school grounds with our beautification day. We also held the fall dance. I'd like to thank all of the volunteers who assisted with these events. I'd like to express my appreciation to the new parents who have stepped up to fill the vacant slots in key positions--Dance Chair (Ivana Miranda), Fundraising (Emalee Lewis), Hospitality Co-chairs (Brandi Jones and Niani Stimpson), and Spirit Wear (Nikki Owens). There are still vacant positions so let me know if you are available to help.

Your Fairland ES PTA Newsletter
Beginning this year, the Fairland ES PTA Newsletter will only be provided as back pack mail on request. There are four ways to get the newsletter. The first and foremost will be in electronic form from our website. Three options for obtaining print versions are available; back pack mail, from a rack in the main office, and through the United States Postal Service. To arrange back pack mail please send an email request to the newsletter editor. The request should include the childs name and the teachers name. The newsletter can also be delivered by the postal service. The request should include the name and delivery address. Postal service delivery will require a small handling charge of $5.00 for the 2009 - 2010 academic year.
Your Fairland ES PTA Membership
We encourage all parents, grandparents, and guardians to become PTA members. Your membership pays for artists and cultural arts programs -- such as storytellers, dancers, actors, puppeteers, musicians, poets, singers, and sculptors to come to the school. The PTA also helps to sponsor before- and after-school programs such as Foreign language instruction (FLES), Family Fun Nights, the school Book Fairs, and the Fall Picnic.

We are looking for middle-school and high-school students
over 13 years of age to baby-sit in the school's
All Purpose Room. This is a great opportunity for students to earn
Student Service Learning (SSL) hours. We would like to have 2-3 sitters for each of our meetings.
Our PTA meetings are on Tuesday nights starting at 7:30 p.m. and ending no later than 9:00 p.m.
If you know of someone over the age of 13 who may be interested in helping out with this,
please contact our PTA Childcare Coordinator
The Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) at Fairland Elementary School is a
non-profit volunteer organization which strives to improve the education,
socialization and community action of its students, teachers and families.
All parents, regardless of membership, are invited
to participate in meetings, discussions and events. Our meetings are
typically on the first Tuesday of each month, beginning at 7:00 p.m. with
social time. The business meeting starts one half hour later in the school’s
All Purpose Room. Reminders will go home on flyers in your child’s
backpack. Membership monies are used to support the fun and educational
events planned throughout the school year for our students and their
families.
The PTA works with the Board of Education members, County Council members, and other
Northeast Consortium schools to ensure a quality education and facilities for your children.
The PTA publishes the Fairland newsletter and school directory and provides funds for teachers
to use in their classrooms. Joining the PTA is an easy way to participate in your child's
education and support our school. Membership in the PTA is $10 per adult and entitles a paid member to
voting rights in the PTA. A percentage of your membership dues stays with Fairland
to help support programs designed to enhance your child's learning. Donations are accepted as
well. Please pay by cash or check, made out to: Fairland PTA. The entire amount is tax deductible.
