Principal's Message for November
The first quarter is behind us and we are moving into the second quarter full steam ahead! So many wonderful things have been going on here at Flower Hill. Reading and Math Night was a huge success and we hope those of you that were able to attend found the evening informative. Many thanks go to our wonderful staff for organizing such a wonderful evening and continuing to give their best to our students every day.
Parent conferences are scheduled for November 11 and 12, so if you would like an opportunity to speak with your child’s teacher, please be sure to call the school and schedule an appointment. Our teachers look forward to meeting with each of their students’ parents over the course of the year.
There a number of days off in the month of November. Please be sure to mark your calendars with the following important dates. It is vital that you note the early release days and make arrangements for your child to get picked up at the appropriate time or have someone home when they arrive.

Highly Gifted Center Programs
Grade 3 Students: Applications for the Center Program for the Highly Gifted (HGC) were mailed to the homes of all Grade 3 students in Montgomery County. If you are interested in having your child considered for the Center Program, you must complete the application and return it by November 9, 2009.
Grade 5 Students: Grade 5 students may apply for the Upcounty Center Program for the Highly Gifted (Roberto Clemente Middle School) if they are interested in participating in accelerated and enriched courses of study either in Humanities and Communication or in Mathematics, Science, and Computer Science. Admission to these programs is very competitive. The deadline for applications is November 9, 2009.

From the MCPS web page above, choose the Microsoft select employee / student purchase. This will take you to the e-academy web site. From there you are asked to register if you have not used the site before. For staff, an MCPS email address must be used. For students, they must submit proof they are a MCPS student (student ID or report card) via upload or fax.
