Saturday, May 20-Annual Gaithersburg Book Festival Is May 20 

  1. Join the Gaithersburg community and beyond for a celebration of books, writers and literacy excellence. This year’s Gaithersburg Book Festival will be held from 10 a.m.–6 p.m. on Saturday, May 20 at Bohrer Park in Gaithersburg. 
  2. The festival features a great lineup of authors and activities for children of all ages, writing workshops for adults and teens and more. Students Service Learning Hours (SSL) opportunities are available for students 16 and older.

Sunday, May 21-GMS Kid Museum Day is May 21

  • It's a STEM day where GMS students and families can celebrate, connect, create, and have fun... for FREE.
  • KID Museum is the perfect place for the whole family being an interactive maker space that offers innovative learning experiences. They promote critical thinking and foster creativity in science, technology, engineering, and math through hands-on exhibits and activities. Details are below:

Tuesday, May 23

  • 8:30-2:20 PM -GMS Model UN Conference, Students from SSIMS and Briggs Chaney MS will visit GMS
  • 6:30 PM-National Junior Honor Society Induction-Cafeteria

Wednesday, May 24-Chorus Concert

  • Performing students should arrive by 6:00 PM.
  • The concert begins at 7:00 PM in the Gym and should conclude around 8:00 PM.
  • All families and members of the community are invited to attend.

Thursday, May 25-Orchestra/Band Concert

  • Performing students should arrive to set up at 6:20 PM.
  • The concert begins at 7:00 PM in the Gym and should conclude around 8:30 PM.
  • This is a celebration of your hard work and coming together as a community.

Wednesday, May 31-Drama Club Shows

  • 5:00 PM performance in the GYM. The show will conclude at 6:00 PM.
  • 7:00 PM performance in the GYM. The show will conclude at 8:00 PM.

Thursday, June 1-Drama Club Shows

  • 5:00 PM performance in the GYM. The show will conclude at 6:00 PM.
  • 7:00 PM performance in the GYM. The show will conclude at 8:00 PM

Friday, June 2-GMS Talent Show Rehearsal

  • 3:00-5:00 PM in the Gym
  • Required for all performers
  • No activity busses

Tuesday, June 6-GMS Talent Show

  • Performers should arrive by 5:00 PM.
  • The performance begins at 6:00 PM in the GYM. The performance will conclude by 7:30 PM.
  • Everyone is invited to attend.

Friday, June 9-Chorus Field Trip

  • Chorus Music in the Parks Competition
  • 8:00 AM-8:00 PM-All day field trip to Hershey Park

Tuesday, June 13-8th grade field trip to Bar-T Ranch

  • 10:00-2:00 PM at Bar-T Ranch in Laytonsville
  • Included: entrance, food, entertainment
  • Permission slip and $10.00 fee is due to Ms. Diggs

June 14-8th Grade End of the Year Awards Celebration and Cookout

  • June 14th 5:30–7:30-GMS field (closest to Gaithersburg Elementary School)
  • Free food, music, games etc.
  • Students will be given a certificate for their completion of middle school.
  • (Rain date) June 15th                                        

GMS Summer School 

  • Due to a reduced budget from MCPS, summer school enrollment will be on an invitation only basis. We will be inviting students who need remedial support in the major work of the previous grade level’s curriculum. 
  • At this time, we anticipate our enrollment to be limited to 20 students per grade level. 
  • You will receive a phone call from our team if your student has been identified for summer school enrollment by May 5. 
  • Dates of summer school are July 10-July 28 from 8:00 AM-12:30 PM
