Final Frontiers 2011

Patrick O'Connor and Kevin Hsieh
" On Saturday November the 19th eight students from GHS submitted projects at “Final Frontiers”, the annual science/engineering competition that features an aerospace theme. Sponsored by the Maryland Space Business Roundtable, a consortium of contractors working in space related science and engineering, “Final Frontiers” gathers students from area schools to compete against each other. Our students performed well among the nearly 15 local high schools which included three private high schools and did a great job representing Gaithersburg High School. The students who competed were 9th grader Katragadda Saimouli, 11th graders Zakary Keres and Kevin Hsieh, and 12th graders Alicia Irikura, Michelle Kramer, Thomas Hunt, Andrew Simon and Justin Merrell. A special congratulations goes out to Kevin Hsieh, assisted by Zakary Keres, who earned top honors with his first place Aerocar. Because of Kevin’s attention to detail and effective troubleshooting he was also awarded a special honor as he received the “Outstanding Engineering Award.” This award was given to only one student at the high school level meaning he was selected “from among hundreds of worthy competitors.” Kevin will receive the award on December 13th at Martin’s Crosswinds in Greenbelt, MD at the Maryland Space Business Roundtable annual luncheon."
