I am the proud principal of Great Seneca Creek Elementary School (Est. 2006). The work we began three years ago continues to motivate and inspire me.  As a community, we have united to create a Professional Learning Community, sharing the vision of high levels of student achievement for all of our students.

I was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and I earned my undergraduate degree from The Pennsylvania State University. I earned my Masters degree in Educational Leadership from Hood College in Frederick, Maryland. I have spent my entire 17-year career in MCPS, serving students as a classroom teacher (at the elementary and middle school levels) and as an administrator. I was the assistant principal of Brooke Grove ES in Olney before completing my internship at Brown Station ES in Gaithersburg. I had been the principal of Darnestown Elementary School from 2002-2006.

My wife and I live in Germantown, MD with our three children. We enjoy spending our time together bike-riding, camping, and playing the guitar near any campfire we can find. We are huge Steelers fans!

My goal has been to build excellence at Great Seneca Creek Elementary through rigorous instruction, focused collaboration, and effective communication.  I believe you accomplish this by hiring excellent staff and allowing them to do what they do best – teach children.  A world-class staff and a committed parent community can do amazing things for children.  We’re experiencing that here at The Creek.

I can be reached at 301-353-8500. In addition, I am available through email at Gregory_S_Edmundson@mcpsmd.org.

I am honored to be the Acting Principal of GSCES and to be a part of a school with a reputation for excellence in teaching and learning and a true commitment to having all its students achieve at high levels.  We are a newly established community and have already experienced much success.   This success is the result of the vision and combined efforts of a dedicated staff, involved parents, and of course, our wonderful students.  I look forward to continuing the important work that we began almost three years ago:  working collaboratively to fulfill our mission of preparing students to become life-long learners, ready to meet the challenges of the 21st century.

Family is very important to me so, when I'm not in school, you will find me enjoying the company of my husband and three grown children. My oldest daughter, Katie, is a teacher at Brown Station Elementary School. My younger daughter, Kristin, is currently working on her Masters Degree in Elementary Education at the University of Maryland.  Kristin is also working as a paraeductor at GSCES as a part of her graduate work.  Bobby, my youngest, is a junior at Towson University.  He is studying computer science and wants to become a police officer like his father.  My family is my passion, so you will hear me talk a lot about them; however, I am also an avid baseball fan and sun-worshiper and enjoy spending time anywhere near a baseball game or a body of water.

I was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and moved to Montgomery County, Maryland when I was 3 years old. I grew up in Olney, attended Farquhar Middle School and graduated from Sherwood High School. My teaching career began 30 years ago after I graduated from the University of Maryland with a degree in Elementary and Special Education. I also earned a Masters Degree in Administration from Bowie State University. I was a classroom and special education teacher at both Poolesville and Monocacy Elementary Schools before moving to Sherwood Elementary to become the staff development teacher. After that,  I worked for three years as a staff development specialist in the Office of Organizational Development and while I truly enjoyed my role as a specialist, I missed being in a school and working closely with students, parents, and teachers. So, three years ago, I was thrilled to become a proud Bullfrog Assistant Principal.

I am very excited about my latest opportunity, to take the lead role as Acting Principal from December 2008 to April 2009.  It is my goal to continue to foster the trust and positive relationships built with students, parents, and the entire school community. As a life-long learner myself, I look forward to the knowledge and challenges that this experience will surely bring.  As GSCES continues to grow, I am confident that we will work together to maintain our sense of community spirit and our focus on academic excellence for all of our students.
