State Web Quest

Introduction Task Process Conclusion

Introduction

Your job is to help students at Jones Lane plan their summer vacations.  Last year Mrs. Reynolds asked students and their families to send postcards to Jones Lane from places that they visited over the summer.

Task

You are going to make state postcards to show students some great places to visit this summer.  Your postcard will have a picture on one side and on the other it will have a note written to Mrs. Reynolds telling her about things she might like to see in your state and of course the Jones Lane address.

Process

1. You will choose a state.  (It can be a state that you have already learned about or a new one but it cannot be Maryland.)  Everyone in your class will choose a different state.  Your first job is to locate your state on a map of the United States.  You can use this web site to help you find your state on the US map.

Infoplease

2. You will color your state and label it.

3. Now you need to become an expert on your state so that you can tell other people things that they might like to go and see there.  You will write your information on a graphic organizer that I will give you.  You can find out about your state at these web sites:

Official Tourism Sites

US States: Enchanted Learning

50 States.Com

Remember - you are trying to find interesting things that people would like to visit on their vacation.  You need to find at least 3 things that would be interesting to see or do in your state.

Conclusion

You will make a postcard about your state.  One side should have a picture.

(Remember that you are trying to convince people to go to your state.)  On the other side you will write a letter to Mrs. Reynolds telling her about at least 3 interesting things to do in your state.

On the right had side of the postcard you will write the address:

Mrs. Reynolds
Jones Lane Elementary School
15110 Jones Lane
Gaithersburg, M.D.  20878
