Reading Workshop for Parents of Kindergarteners
Please join us! Ms. Maturro and Ms. Kalavritinos will be hosting a special evening reading workshop, Wednesday, October 21st, designed to assist you in helping your kindergartener become an independent reader. Ms. Rehm and Ms. Stewart will provide childcare. The workshop will be held in the Luxmanor Media Center from 7:00P - 8:30P. Please RSVP as soon as possible.
We are very pleased to say that most of the kindergarten students have made a wonderful adjustment to school and are beginning to learn how to work together as a class. We are enjoying our classes and the children are working hard.

- October 5 – 9 - Bring in a hand made Boat! We will be discussing Christopher Columbus (who discovered America in 1492) in October. As homework this week, children are asked to MAKE and TEST a boat made out of paper, wood, or any recycled materials and bring it into school on their show and tell day. We will have a BIG SAIL on Monday 12th- Columbus Day to test all of the boats in water. Each child will sail their boat in school on that day. We will see how we do in 2009!
- October 12-15- Draw a picture of the shape of your bedroom-square, rectangle, etc. Within the drawing of the room, draw in your bed, dresser, book case, doors, windows, etc. Finally count and then write down the number of doors and windows within the room. Please bring this drawing to class on you show and tell day.
- October 19-23- Find something in your home that has a pattern. Bring in the item and tell us about the pattern. (Example: a pattern on a shirt or small towel.)

Other Important Information
OUT SICK - If your child is sick during the year, please send in a written excuse (please no FAX) with your child explaining the absence. Please do not send your child to school if he or she is coming down with an illness.
AFTER SCHOOL PLANS - If your child is going home after school with another child, please write a note to the teacher. The receiving parent must also write a note. This is a SCHOOL POLICY – notes both ways! We will not place a walker on the bus without a note or vice versa. If you have special after school arrangements for your child (car pool, different person picking up, child going home to a different location on different days), please write a note.
CLOTHING - All articles of clothing must be marked with the child’s name for safe return.
Mini Notes
Please help your child with writing his or her name. Remember that the first letter is capital, followed by lower case letters. We are writing names daily in class and many need just a little more help-thanks!
LIBRARY BOOKS will be taken home weekly. Please discuss with your child where the book will be kept at your home. Also, the books are due back in school the day before library day ( Kalavritinos on Thursday, Rehm and Stewart on Tuesday). Thanks for your help.
