Performing, creating, and responding to music are the fundamental music processes in which humans engage. Students learn by doing. Singing, playing instruments, moving to music, and creating music enable them to acquire musical skills and knowledge that can be developed in no other way. Learning to read and notate music gives them a skill with which to explore music independently and with others. Listening to, analyzing, and evaluating music are important building blocks of musical learning. Further, to participate fully in a diverse, global society, students must understand their own historical and cultural heritage and those of others within their communities and beyond. Because music is a basic expression of human culture, every student should have access to a balanced, comprehensive, and sequential program of study in music.

What's Happening In Music

Kindergarteners
will learn to play a steady beat. They will also learn the difference between fast and slow, and loud and soft.

First graders will explore their different vocal registers. They will also learn to identify classroom instruments and follow musical cues in singing games.  They will be able to identify different and same sections in music.

Second graders are preparing for a field trip November 19th to Strathmore. They will learn about concert etiquette and variations on melodies.

Third graders will begin preparing for recorders. THEY HAVE ARRIVED!!!

Fourth graders are composing their own variations on a melody from the song Day-O.

Fifth graders will learn to perform a variety of dances and songs from around the world. They will be able to perform simple melodies using solfeggio and be able to evaluate performances of themselves and others.

Chorus is continuing to rehearse for our upcoming concert in December. Parents, please fill out and return the survey sent home.

Instrumental music is offered as a daytime pull out program beginning in grade 4.
