The Safe Homes Pledge is a nation-wide initiative to promote safe activities among our youth by providing appropriate supervision in your home and contact between parents when a child/teen engages in unsafe or illegal behavior.
Please review the content of the Magruder High School Safe Homes Pledge and Frequently Asked Questions, and the Adult Host Responsibility PDF, which explains the legal consequences regarding underage drinking in your home, whether you are present or not, or aware of its occurrence or not.
If you choose to be a Safe Homes Pledge family, please click on the Sign-Up Form tab and submit the required information. Only the parent/guardian first and last names and the phone number(s) you allow will be posted on a list of participating families on this website, at the Safe Homes Family List tab.
Please note that the Safe Homes Pledge is not legally binding; it is an understanding among parents who share the values described in the Pledge.
If you have any questions, please contact Suzanne Talbot at Norbot norbot@verizon.net.
If you would like to participate in the Brave and Bold campaign to make the Safe Homes Pledge county-wide, please contact Patty Winters at patty.winters@verizon.net.

The Magruder High School Safe Homes Pledge
I acknowledge the following:
- It is unlawful for youth under 21 to consume or possess alcohol. If underage persons consume or possess alcohol in my home, I can be held civilly and legally liable, including a $2,500.00 fine per youth, for the first offense.
- In Maryland, youths under 18 years of age may not possess or use tobacco products.
- It is illegal for a person of any age to use prescription drugs without their own prescription, or any illegal drug (marijuana, heroin, ecstasy, inhalants, etc.).
I will supervise parties or gatherings in my home. Recommended ratio: One adult per seven to ten adolescents.
I will welcome calls from other parents/guardians when my child is hosting a party or gathering.
I will call the parents/guardians for a Safe Home confirmation that a responsible adult is present when my child is attending a party/gathering at their home. Recommended ratio: One adult per seven to ten adolescents.
I will not allow or serve alcohol, tobacco products in my home to underage youths, nor will any illegal drug be accessible or available in my home or on my property.
I want other parents/guardians to call me if they find my child has been involved with alcohol, tobacco, other drugs (including abuse of over-the-counter or prescription drugs), and/or has committed violent acts.
